The Ladies

We met when our kids were not even six months old. We are still the best of friends. I don't know who I would be as a parent without them.  They are my go-to for all things kids related. They are my go-to for all complaints and joys. They are my rock.  We are six women who happened upon each other during what we felt like was the hardest point in our life. We clung to one another like leaches and didn't let go. We all serve a purpose to each other and we all understand and respect that understanding.  Now here we are four years later and we laugh at ourselves.  They mean the world to me.

One of us turned 40 years old and since 40 is a big deal and an excuse to plan a big day out without kids we jumped on it. We went to do high tea at the Peninsula to celebrate.  We chatted. We laughed. We cried. We ate. We drank. We had a wonderful afternoon.

After tea we met the menfolk for drinks and dinner to celebrate the fact that one of us was moving to the west coast. The west coast. The west coast is a 4.5 hour plane ride away. We told stories. We laughed and cried some more.  We already have plans to celebrate S's 39th birthday in Napa next March! Napa.  Yes, Please.  Kid-free.  Damn right.

We hosted Easter-Palooza again this year.  There will be multiple posts regarding the festivities.  The ladies were able to sit down for a few minutes while the kids played and the menfolk watched the kids.  We were one short since S had left for San Fran the week before but we talked about how much we missed her and her ability to drink bubbles like a champ.
I am grateful to have a Chicago family for my kids to grow up with since all of our family, except Annessa, lives far away.
