And then finally the littles get to go to school!!! Two and a half hours to do what I want while they are entertained by friends and teachers. Four days a week. Every week (minus random exceptions!).
Cate was all in. She was ready to party. She knew half of her class before going for the first day. I am happy I moved her up to the 3 year old class when she technically should have been in the 2 year old class. She wasn't three by 9/1. I am happy I have a relationship with the school to be able to discuss deviating from the traditional path. She belongs in the 3 year old room. She's the third child and would run over the two year olds verbally and physically.
Willie is happy to have a buddy. He's happier to go to school every day b/c he knows Cate is there with him. We haven't had any fights about going to school. Last year he would break down every day b/c he had to get out of the car and Cate didn't. Now I shove them both out and run for my life. Cater isn't scared. It was cold on the first day of school.
We biked to and from school with the bike trailer until it got cold and I became a wimp. The kids request going in the trailer and frankly we move faster and are on time when we bike to school. We've started driving due to the weather getting colder and rain and we're late every day. Late is relative at preschool b/c essentially as long as you show up you're on time.
They get along so well after school. They play together in a civilized manner. There's not much abusing each other or screaming. They playfully laugh most days. It's endearing. Then number one comes home and the whole dynamic blows up. It's usually not pretty for anyone.
The littles and their built in friends/classmates playing after school.
Gang's all here.
I linger around school most days. I am either talking to another parent, a teacher, or decorating the bulletin board. The kids love to say Hi and introduce me to their friends, show me their tricks, or wave hi and run away. During Will's first two years at preschool if he would see me lingering around school he would fuss and whine about how he wanted me to take him home. I don't know if it's growing up, Cate being there, his teachers, or his new friends or a mix of all of it, but he seems to absolutely love school. And it makes my heart so happy.
